Accountancy Helpdesk (Members)

Accountancy and tax can be complex and consume considerable amounts of senior management time. Many of these issues can be resolved quickly with a little timely advice from experts.

The APSCo Accountancy Helpdesk provides members with free technical advice and support from a top 20 accountancy firm. Saffery Champness is one of the most active firms of accountants in the recruitment sector with 9 offices across the UK, 58 partners, over 400 staff and an international presence through their Nexia International network. APSCo members can contact the Accountancy Helpdesk with any questions about accounting, tax and corporate finance.

What does the Helpdesk offer?
A dedicated email address (apsco@saffery.com) and call-back service. Saffery Champness expect to be able to respond to all emails before the end of the following working day, and normally on the same working day.

Up to 20 minutes of free time, from either a Senior Manager or Partner in the firm. If your enquiry is sufficiently complex or involved that it would require some research and further time before responding, then they would make you aware of the fact that there would be a cost for that work. In all cases, they would provide a quote for doing the work and there would be no obligation to use their services.

What sort of issues are covered?
Typical examples of scenarios where you could use the APSCo Accountancy Helpdesk, may relate to:

  • Extracting profits from the business in a tax efficient manner 
  • Details of different share incentive schemes for key employees 
  • An overview of how travel and subsistence schemes work 
  • Other salary sacrifice schemes, such as pensions or childcare vouchers 
  • Taxation associated with company cars/car allowances 
  • Clarification on the impact of matters arising from the Chancellor’s Budget on your business 
  • VAT issues arising when dealing with international businesses, or VAT exempt businesses such as banks, charities and healthcare operators 
  • Explanation of possible sources of finance and methods of improving working capital 
  • Considerations when carrying out financial due diligence on a possible acquisition target 
  • Considerations when valuing a recruitment business 
  • Tips on grooming your business for an exit

Accountancy Helpdesk responsibilities
Saffery Champness will endeavour to respond to email correspondence between 09:00 and 17:30 each normal working day. However, members accept that there will be occasions when it is not possible to respond to an email in this timeframe. In such circumstances, they will endeavour to reply to email correspondence before the end of the following working day.
