Clients now need recruiters more than ever

CLIENTS NOW NEED RECRUITERS MORE THAN EVER.

I was fortunate to be invited to a hospitality event at Twickenham Stadium when the England rugby team managed a draw against the All Blacks last November.

Over 500 guests sat down to a meal before the kick-off.  The food was great, but what struck me was how hard the staff were working to serve us. As things wound down, I had a chat with the maître d.  He told me that the staff were largely agency workers and that 25 staff had failed to show up.

This event neatly summed up what is happening in our industry at the moment.  We are in a recession, but clients are crying out for staff.  Most recruiters are doing very well.  Some are even producing record sales.  However, the market is changing.  Recruiters who were previously client focused need to move towards being worker focused.  This should be obvious to all owners, but some I speak to complain that they can’t get workers, yet they are doing nothing positive to get them.  It should go without saying that now is the time to be looking after your workforce.

Make your workforce feel wants and part of a team.  Take them out for a meal, send them birthday cards, reward loyal, long serving temps.  If you aren’t doing it, you can bet some of your competitors are.
